Closing down

June 8, 2021

Bernat Fages

It is with deep sadness that we have decided to close down Human Lambdas. Our services will stop operating on 30th June 2021, in just a few weeks.

1.5 years ago, we embarked on a journey to disrupt how companies run their operations after noticing the same pattern across many different industries: companies pour countless hours of engineering time into building the same internal tools to help their Ops teams coordinate, execute and track routine work more efficiently. This always takes the shape of a ticketing system optimized for the specific nature of each business. Most companies reluctantly build such tools and wish they didn't have to.

We have been framing this space as Human in the Loop, because what all these companies are doing is to embed people in the most challenging steps of computing processes that in an ideal world would be automated. And they all tend to follow a similar path: starting completely manual, adding in automation logic with the usual bypass to redirect certain decisions to people, improving the share of what is automated by adopting more sophisticated Machine Learning based strategies, etc. until it is fully automated and people are merely involved for Quality Assurance.

During this time, we have tirelessly worked on building Human in the Loop infrastructure to support all stages of a process' lifecycle. Our approach has been to design an unopinionated and hyper-customizable ticketing system of sorts, with the goal of supporting routine work within any business vertical without much engineering involvement.

Ultimately, we haven't been able to reach the level of customizability most businesses would require in order to ditch their own internal tools and drop the need to build this type of infrastructure in-house. The stakes are just too high for most businesses to make that compromise.

Nevertheless, we are open sourcing our technology to provide a viable way forward for those users who are relying on Human Lambdas today to run their operations. We hope this will give teams a valuable foundation to build on top of. For more details, head to the repository.
